This post was originally written on June 21, 2009, thought I'd post it hear cuz of the truths in the forward. Glad to say that the friendship I worried about was actually ok and I was doing too much thinking again as usual...sometimes people just need more space I guess, and I need to remember that better.
**********************************************
I've been feeling a bit bummed about a friendship I treasure but seems to have changed in recent months. (i.e. I feel like we're growing more and more distant and X doesn't seem to want to invest much time in it anymore.) Then I saw the forward below in my mailbox today, and it's helped to put things in perspective. I heard a song recently and one of its lines I love says "Life is loving and letting go." ... I guess this season maybe what I need to learn is to let things go and trust that I'll still be ok in spite of the pain and uncertainty. I'm guessing many of us have gone through such periods, so I thought you might enjoy the reminder below to treasure the relationships in your life, whether they may be for a reason, a season or a lifetime. Cheers! :)
*********************************************
Reason, Season, Lifetime
People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.
When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person.
When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support,
to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a Godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.
Some people come into your life for a SEASON, because your turn has come to share, grow or learn. They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it, it is real. But only for a season.
LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons, things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life.
It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

A Day Out of Time
An excerpt from Jason Mraz's blog, which I always find enlightening:
Something Interesting about July 25th.
"It is the 365th day of the 13 moon calendar, a Mayan system that measures the years in thirteen months of 28 days each: a perpetual calendar of 52 perfect weeks, with a total of 364 days. The 365th Day, the “Day Out Of Time,” is not a day of the week or a month at all, but truly a day out of time. This day of artistic celebration is an opportunity to cancel debts, to pardon and forgive, and to celebrate life, purification, community, love, and universal forgiveness of all beings." - Excerpt from my creative day planner, “Plenty of Time” by Terces Engelhart
Funny he should mention that yesterday was a Day Out of Time. I had planned to check out the Beaches Jazz Fest in Toronto with a bunch of friends on July 25th, and thought to change our plans because of the forecast for rain. The leader in our group decided we should go rain or shine... and when we met at 4pm, it was pouring rain. After dinner though the weather cleared and we had an awesome time checking out all the live acts along Queen St... and at the close of the day, I thought to myself... what a perfect day despite of the gloomy start! It really felt like a day in heaven, everyone in a good mood and enjoying the diverse selection of music for free... so maybe it was really a Day Out of Time and we should switch to the Mayan calendar so at least we'll have one day of heaven every year? I'm probably running on a different calendar all together, but that's ok. So far including yesterday I've had 3 perfect days this year... all of them spent with other friends on the journey.
1) Going to watch The Shadow and hanging out at the Distillery District.
2) Checking out the Taste of Litte Italy.
3) Enjoying the free tunes at the Beaches Street Fest on Queen Street.
3 days of heaven while on earth is pretty amazing already. But I have a feeling that there are more perfect days to come this year... which will make it my best year on earth so far! How this is possible is beyond me, I can only thank the LOVE.

pond of letters
pond of letters
i strolled by a shallow pond of letters this afternoon
and thought of the ocean of words that i've been trying to tread in.
the sheer immensity of its depth made me freeze with terror as a deer caught in headlights,
but it's sink or swim so i keep flailing my arms about.
tired, i close my eyes for a second or was it an eternity?
the ocean had been rearranged into books of various sizes lining the walls of a long room with no end.
now the words seem more manageable because they were contained,
so i sit content by the fire as i turn the page into another wonderland.
